A comment on the idea "Flickr: new People in Photos feature" in Polar Rose:
Would be really nice to be able to add this, but this is a lot more work than it seems. Flickr puts a lot of restraints on this. For example, the user needs to be a Flickr user. Since we allow people to tag with any identity including Facebook ones, this is problematic.
We don't currently support contacts from Flickr either, so that will have to be added. Also, Flickr doesn't allow for any way of linking people tags back to Polar Rose (remember we might have more photos of a person, for example those coming from Facebook), thus it would be all giving and no taking. Add to that, no way of messaging a Flickr user and so on and it becomes a pretty hairy overall.
But we're thinking about it. – Thijs Stalenhoef, on March 01, 2010 12:07

Hi Neil,
There is currently no way to increase the 10K limit from a user point of view.
Newer ones do push off old ones, but we do not "delete" any information when that happens. You just might not be able to access that information though.
You cannot remove photos just from Polar Rose. The system works on the basis of a full sync between Polar Rose and Flickr and removing individual photos from consideration would complicate that quite dramatically for us.

Thijs Stalenhoef replied on March 01, 2010 11:51 to the question "Temporary vs. permanent ignore" in Polar Rose:
Hi Neil,
Sorry for the late reply. People you ignore will stay ignored for a week of non-activity. After that they come round again. We've wanted to improve this but haven't yet found the time.
Ignoring a face just ignores that particular face (i.e. one face from one particular photo), not a whole group of faces or anything, so it doesn't skew recognition in any way.

Sorry to hear that Pat.
We really do like these ideas, but we've having trouble finding the time to execute them. Machinetags and people tags would indeed be great additions, but I cannot say when we'll get round to implementing them.

Hi Christian,
Could be for several reasons:
1. We've had problems with connecting to Facebook, because Facebook changed their interfaces.
2. We only take photos whose privacy settings are set to "friends only", "friends of friends" or "everyone". Our service exists to share photos with the people in them, so we do not take photos marked "private" or "only these specific people".
I of course have no way of knowing which is the case for you right now. If you are sure it is not #2, then you could go to the "sources" page and remove the Facebook photo source and log-out. Then log back in and re-add the photo source.
Hopefully that is possible, as there currently is a bug in Facebook's special permissions popup (something we unfortunately cannot solve :-( ) that prevents you from granted us permissions for some of the things we need.
Can you let me know how the results if any?
Thanks!

Adam,
We cannot find your name in the system anywhere. We really need your Polar Rose ID in order to continue to look for the cause of this issue...
Also, we will need to know if each message that your girlfriend got has the exact same link in it, or if they are different links. This is crucial!
Thanks!

Hi Jon,
Is this still an issue for you? If so, what browser are you on? If you're on IE then this is the cause of the problem I'm afraid. Otherwise please let me know. – Thijs Stalenhoef, on February 09, 2010 09:16

Hi,
We'd love to integrate with the people option too, but last time I checked there was no API for doing so. This would definitely be of interest to us though. – Thijs Stalenhoef, on February 09, 2010 08:56

Hi Adam,
Obviously this should not be happening. My apologies!
Your girlfriend should only be getting ONE mail per day if she was tagged during that particular day and a maximum of two in total, if you were tagging her on consecutive days.
We'll get to the bottom of this right away, though please note that it is Facebook that actually sends these tagging messages, not us. The fact that "the messages keep coming" even after you turned off photo tagging on our side also suggests that this problem might be on the Facebook side.
We'll try and find out what happen from our side! Could you please mail me (http://info.polarrose.com/contact from my email address) your Polar Rose ID (the number in the URL that you see when browsing your own photos).
Thanks!
