Hello,
we have done some code cleaning on the directory and we have changed the current appdirectory with the list view only. This choice is to avoid confusion (some users thought they could launch apps via this ). The HTML5 launcher as you imagine is a Huge project and will be rolled progressively. We will come with some more news on the blog very soon.
thx again for your support.
Tariq KRIM replied on February 06, 2010 09:04 to the question "Jolicloud - Friend or Foe? / Helper or Dictator?" in Jolicloud:
Hello Noon
jolicloud is every more loosely based on an debian/ubuntu derivated linux. We have decided to make a hard work to provide a usable out of the box operating system. A large part of our users have never used a linux based operating system and for the others, they are experiencing sometime for the first time the pleasure of an out of the box , everything working right away.
For the reason described is open and totally unrestricted , it means that at anytime you can install any program, using linux debian format or windows (if you have installed wine) or open a terminal and tweak you machine as you want. We can not unfortunately provide support for any tweak or application that we have not provided.
Our focus at jolicloud is to improve the integration of web applications and upcoming HTML5 web apps. We have kept a minimal list of native apps and they all have been optimized for jolicloud. We keep the list compact so we can do the improvements when necessary.
As in the future, we will spend more and more resources on the integration of the web and the OS and it was always the plan to remove as much as we can to have the most lightweight linux that interact with the web.
We believe there's an opportunity to change the whole architecture of what an OS should be. We know they are a lots of conservatism in the software industry but we think that theses changes will benefit a larger group of users and when company like apple are restricting the capabilities we are trying to expand them leveraging the open web rather than a close native environment.
I hope you understand our point and happy joliclouding !
