I'm not sure I fully understand your use case, but I'm happy to help however I can. Would you be able to explain "they see get satisfaction becoming the self service portal" in a bit more detail, so that I can better understand what your client is hoping they'll see?

Hm, that's interesting. I know you can ask to only be notified of new posts in a particular product, and new replies to that topic is something you can turn off on your dashboard.
Following topics via RSS feed might work better/less interruptively for you, but I like this idea, and I'll ask the product team to weigh in on it, too.
